Having a special imaginery friend is all very well. Fred the dragon is a bit of an exception.

Fred The Dragon

by Neil Ford

Fred the dragon isn't real
He's someone in your head
In your imagination
Or something that you've read

I'm just not going to do it
Imagine the note to school
"Fred the dragon has held us up"
They'll consider me a fool

Now hurry up. We can't be late
It's the second time this week
If I use the excuse you've given me
They'll think that I'm a freak

Fred is loved in our house
Because he's your special friend
We've all made lots of space for him
But outside that must end

Fred can be so naughty
It really is a fact
So he mustn't join your class today
But stay home til you get back

It's not that we don't love him
We think he's really sweet
It's just that we can't trust him
To be good and keep his seat
