Boatmen and locals have called in at the Five Miles From Anywhere - No Hurry, previously the Lord Nelson, for centuries.

The No Hurry

by Neil Ford

The No Hurry bar can get rough as hell
When you take a good look at the mixed clientele
There are bargees and boatmen, and farming lads too
They’re all tough as iron when they have a to-do

We’ve been up to Cambridge a-hauling the sedge
Three boatloads we stacked on the wharf by the bridge
We are now heading home with old Reuben a-towing
We’ll stop at the pub with this thirst that’s been growing

We look for the ferryman ahead by the ale house
It’s a short haul to home for our grub and some rest
Very likely some numbskull will start up a fight
But we’ll look to keep clear so we get home tonight

Just now and then ‘Mad Jack’ Darnell will come in
He’s the fastest turf cutter a-working the pits
After plenty of ale he’ll stagger off home
It’s hard to believe he will be first back at dawn
